Move files from Google Drive or Dropbox without breaking existing share links

5 min read

The built-in importer copies files out of Google Drive or Dropbox rather than moving them — your originals (and every share link pointing at them) stay untouched until you decide to retire them.

  1. 1 Open Settings → Import and connect your Google Drive or Dropbox account. Anchor Cloud requests read-only access, so nothing on the source side can change.
  2. 2 Pick the folders to import and map each one to a project. Folder structure, file names, and modification dates carry over as-is.
  3. 3 Start the import and keep working — it runs server-to-server, so nothing downloads through your machine. A typical 50 GB library finishes in a few hours.
  4. 4 Spot-check the imported folders, then start sharing new Anchor Cloud links. Leave the originals in place for about 30 days so old links keep resolving while people switch over.

Once traffic on the old links dies down, archive or delete the source folders. Until then, both copies coexist safely — the importer never syncs deletions back to Drive or Dropbox.
