Transfer ownership of a project when someone leaves the team

4 min read

Every project has one owner who controls its folders, integration connections, and share-link management. When that person leaves, transfer ownership rather than deleting their account — the transfer moves everything intact.

  1. 1 Open Project settings → General → “Transfer ownership”.
  2. 2 Pick the new owner — they must be a workspace Member (guests can’t own projects).
  3. 3 Confirm. The new owner immediately gets admin rights on every folder, control of the project’s Slack/Notion/Zapier connections, and management of its share links.
  4. 4 The previous owner drops to a regular Member of the project; remove them from the workspace whenever offboarding is complete.

Share links, version history, and comment attribution are untouched by the transfer — nothing sent to clients breaks. If the person already left and their account is deactivated, a workspace admin can claim ownership directly from Admin → Projects.
