Large uploads (5 GB+) failing or timing out
6 min read
Browser uploads have a hard 5 GB per-file cap, and they aren’t resumable — one Wi-Fi hiccup at 92% and the whole transfer starts over. That combination is why big video exports and raw-photo archives fail in the web app.
The desktop sync client has no file-size cap and uploads in resumable chunks: drop the files into any synced folder and the client transfers them in parallel, automatically retrying any chunk that fails.
- 1 Install the desktop client from Settings → Apps if you haven’t already.
- 2 Move or copy the large files into a synced project folder in Finder or Explorer.
- 3 Leave the machine awake until the tray icon turns solid teal — interrupted transfers resume from the last completed chunk, not from zero.
If the desktop client also struggles, check two things: free disk space for its upload cache (it needs roughly the size of the largest file), and corporate proxies that buffer streaming uploads — the sync.anchorcloud.com whitelist fixes the latter.
