Share link asks recipients to sign in even though it's set to 'anyone with the link'
4 min read
When a link set to “anyone with the link” still demands a sign-in, the folder setting isn’t broken — an org-wide sharing policy is overriding it. Policies always win over per-folder settings.
- 1 Open Admin → Sharing policies (workspace admins only) and look for “Require sign-in for all links”.
- 2 Either turn the policy off workspace-wide, or keep it on and add the specific folder as an exception under “Excluded folders”.
- 3 The change applies to existing links immediately — recipients just reload the link, no new link needed.
If the policy was already off, check the link itself: links created as “Team only” look identical to public ones in the share sheet. Open the link’s settings and confirm the audience really says “anyone with the link”.
