Sync stuck on 'Waiting to retry' after a network change
5 min read
“Waiting to retry” almost always appears right after a network change — a new office VPN, a stricter firewall, or a switch to guest Wi-Fi. The client can reach the internet but not the sync endpoint, so it backs off and waits.
- 1 Click the tray icon and open the “Waiting to retry” row — the detail line names what failed (usually “connection to sync.anchorcloud.com timed out”).
- 2 Ask IT to whitelist sync.anchorcloud.com on port 443, or add it to your VPN’s split-tunnel list so sync traffic bypasses the tunnel.
- 3 Back in the tray menu, choose “Force retry”. A healthy connection clears the queue within a minute or two.
- 4 Still stuck? Sign out of the client and back in — this re-establishes the connection from scratch and clears any stale route.
Sync client 4.2.1 and later detects network changes and reconnects automatically, so if this bites you often, updating the client is the real fix.
